Bol.com radically changes IT course with Xebia
Bol.com’s continuous growth makes heavy demands on the performance and availability of the web shop. This puts quite some pressure on the IT organization. Besides the continuous growth, bol.com is constantly working on realizing new and innovative ideas for the shop. These ideas always result in adjustments to bol.com’s systems and these changes thus require a flexible approach. The organization however, lacked this flexibility. Projects on the whole were complex and long. And some projects took up all the time of the IT organization, making parallel progress on multiple initiatives impossible.

Bol.com wished to work in smaller teams, that were able to decide on the best approach and with their own project responsibility. This objective fitted perfectly with the Agile way of working. That is why bol.com decided to implement Agile as soon as possible. The total implementation only took two months, which they could not have realized without the advice of knowledge partner Xebia.

Thanks to Agile, bol.com has accelerated the time-to-market of new applications and has realized parallel development. On top of that, the Agile way of working resulted in a better motivated IT staff. Agile offers bol.com the possibility to keep growing at the same pace.

ProRail

From Black Box to Glass House
Customer satisfaction studies carried out by ProRail and NS showed that inconsistency in information provision leads to great dissatisfaction among travellers. In order to improve and extend information provision, NS and ProRail have set up the InfoPlus program. This is a two-part program. For one thing, the media such as boards and loudspeakers are replaced and for another, the systems behind these are also replaced.

ProRail manages the InfoPlus program and chose Xebia for the development of the underlying information system. The Agile Project approach was central to this development and development teams that worked partly in the Netherlands and partly in India were used. It was essential here for a new system to be developed within a short timeframe and a set budget, with the system specifications still being subject to change during the project. ProRail was impressed by the Agile development method and the system will be applied in future projects.
Xebia developed high-quality software that met ProRail’s requirements within a short period and within the set budgets. During the development phase the status and progress of the project remained very transparent to the client. This allowed the project to be continuously evaluated and adjusted to changing requirements and specifications.

Vergelijk.nl

Xebia gave Outsourcing a positive connotation again
Proposed growth in Europe made it necessary for Compare Group, known among other things for Vergelijk.nl, to create an underlying platform which could host a variety of country sites. Compare developed the existing website and its platform inhouse 2000. The existing system was not the most ideal platform to expand internationally. Xebia was drafted in to develop a new Java-based platform.

Quality and transparency were deciding factors in choosing Xebia. The Agile project approach allowed Compare Group the ability to monitor the project’s performance every two weeks, and to evaluate the performance and quality of the new platform. Xebia used development teams based in both the Netherlands and India to carry out this project.

The new Java-based platform offers Compare Group the necessary stability, performance and scalability for further growth in Europe. The recognisable look and feel of the website was also retained. Compare Group now has the ability to roll out the various country sites efficiently, and to have them meet local specifications while at the same time optimising performance.

Broad implementation of Scrum in hands of specialist Xebia
Innovative productdevelopment is one of Albumprinter's priorities. The unrivaled speed of innovation resulted in an enormous growth of the organization, and most of all the IT department. The IT department was in need of a adult structure where product development is handled as a process. The right method to do this was found in the Agile methology Scrum.
