Most of Xebia's consultancy clients are Top 300 organizations. However, we often work with smaller and/or specialized organizations when it comes to Agile transformation and software projects.
Below you will find a selection of our client cases.
“Xebia is helping us build customized systems and all the links between the various best-of-breed software packages that we use. But even more important is that they have changed the culture in our organization by introducing Scrum."
Mathijs Tieleman, IT manager Fundeon
Fundeon IT environment: from complex and predetermined to flexible and market-oriented.
Fundeon previously worked with two large and cumbersome customized systems that were not only difficult to adapt, but also expensive to manage and maintain. The organization wanted to move to a flexible environment that could respond quickly to the changing needs and wishes of the business. A complicating factor was that Fundeon has several very specific tasks, which are not supported by any standard software.
A best-of-breed environment consists of a mix of standard software for general tasks (financial administration, CRM and HRM) and custom software for specific tasks (including distribution of grants and monitoring certified work placement providers). Xebia taught Fundeon how to develop software with Scrum and assisted them with the first projects: developing the links between standard software and designing the systems for grants and certifications.
Xebia has transferred its knowledge of Scrum to the development team at Fundeon. The new approach has resulted in a new spirit and much better cooperation between IT and the business. It is no longer the IT department that tells the business how to operate, but the business has control.

“Thanks to Xebia, Agile and Scrum have been fully adopted within our organization. This makes it possible to organize our complex organization successfully and deliver better productivity and more predictability.”
Bert Voorbraak, deputy director ICT at ASR Nederland
Large-scale ICT change process successful with Agile and Scrum
ASR Nederland has a complex ICT organization, because of the various mergers the company went through. The different businesses all use their own ICT environment. ASR Nederland wanted to move to one system, that links all business and products together. This large-scale ICT change process is named Next Generation.
ASR Nederland selected Agile and Scrum as the project methodology for Next Generation, supported by Xebia coaches. After a start-up phase with small projects, Scrum has been rolled out for the whole Next Generation project.
The Agile methodology enables ASR Nederland to successfully realize their large-scale change process. Agile improved the cooperation of developers and the business considerably, thus ensuring that no knowledge gets lost. In addition, Agile provides more control and increases the speed of delivery.

"Both teams have to meet in person at least once. Personal contact is important so team members can get used to each other and see each other face-to-face. This promotes collaboration considerably. Xebia’s distributed Scrum process contains all the right elements for the best possible facilitation of personal contact and collaboration."
Andrew de la Haye, COO at RIPE NCC
Xebia meets RIPE NCC's stringent conditions for Offshoring
The services that RIPE NCC offers its members take place largely through its Internet portal. Maintenance on the old portal was becoming difficult, mainly because of legacy issues. The company decided to develop a new portal that offered access to a wide variety of applications. To achieve the project the company went in search of way to support RIPE NCC’s own development team in a cost-effective way.
RIPE NCC found the solution in an offshoring project in collaboration with Xebia. Xebia was the one and only supplier capable of meeting the COO’s strict conditions for a successful offshore project. RIPE NCC chose the Agile Distributed Delivery Model, which benefits from the collaboration between Xebia’s offices in the Netherlands and India, low cost, and extreme effectiveness resulting from the combination of Agile and offshoring. Xebia’s project team consisted of six developers and part-time quality and project managers. The team was further supplemented by a business analyst and a product owner from RIPE NCC. The project’s center point was in India where four developers were located.
Thanks to Xebia’s help, RIPE NCC was able to create an innovative and successful solution — and quickly. More important, the project proves that the combination of Agile and offshoring can be highly successful — that is, as long as it’s done correctly. The combined advantages of offshoring (reduced cost) and Agile development (increased time to market, productivity and transparency) offer rapid control, high return on investment, and high-quality products.
"When we adopted the Agile methodology we soon realized that we needed Xebia. They have established themselves as the de facto standard for Scrum and have a proven track record for successful Agile implementation."
Feike Groen, software development manager bij bol.com
Bol.com takes a radical, new course with Xebia
Bol.com’s growth makes great demands of the web shop’s availability and performance. It puts enormous pressure on the IT organization. Besides this growth the organization is continuously looking for new and innovative ideas to achieve for the web shop. These result in adjustments to the systems and call for a flexible approach. But the organization lacked flexibility. Projects were complex and lasted very long. Finally a number of projects occupied the entire IT organization, making parallel progress on multiple initiatives impossible.
Bol.com wanted to work faster, in smaller teams, which determine the direction and take responsibility for the projects. This aim fitted well with the Agile method. It’s why they decided to implement Agile as quickly as possible throughout the organization. Bol.com took just two months to complete the implementation and went straight to Xebia, their partner in expertise.
Thanks to the deployment of Agile, bol.com has reduced the time to market of new applications and achieved parallel development. In addition, IT department staff are motivated and enjoy their work more. Agile allows bol.com to continue growing at a uniform pace.
“Xebia pulled the development of our traveller information system out of a black box and made the process flexible and transparent.”
Martien Leget, Program Manager InfoPlus
From Black Box to Glass House
Customer satisfaction studies carried out by ProRail and NS showed that inconsistency in information provision leads to great dissatisfaction among travellers. In order to improve and extend information provision, NS and ProRail have set up the InfoPlus program. This is a two-part program. For one thing, the media such as boards and loudspeakers are replaced and for another, the systems behind these are also replaced.
ProRail manages the InfoPlus program and chose Xebia for the development of the underlying information system. The Agile Project approach was central to this development and development teams that worked partly in the Netherlands and partly in India were used. It was essential here for a new system to be developed within a short timeframe and a set budget, with the system specifications still being subject to change during the project. ProRail was impressed by the Agile development method and the system will be applied in future projects.
Xebia developed high-quality software that met ProRail’s requirements within a short period and within the set budgets. During the development phase the status and progress of the project remained very transparent to the client. This allowed the project to be continuously evaluated and adjusted to changing requirements and specifications.
“Not only did Xebia develop a working platform within three months, but they also took away our aversion to outsourcing and offshoring.”
Adriaan van der Hek, COO Compare Group
Xebia gave Outsourcing a positive meaning again
Proposed growth in Europe made it necessary for Compare Group, known among other things for Vergelijk.nl, to create an underlying platform which could host a variety of country sites. Compare developed the existing website and its platform inhouse 2000. The existing system was not the most ideal platform to expand internationally. Xebia was drafted in to develop a new Java-based platform.
Quality and transparency were deciding factors in choosing Xebia. The Agile project approach allowed Compare Group the ability to monitor the project’s performance every two weeks, and to evaluate the performance and quality of the new platform. Xebia used development teams based in both the Netherlands and India to carry out this project.
The new Java-based platform offers Compare Group the necessary stability, performance and scalability for further growth in Europe. The recognisable look and feel of the website was also retained. Compare Group now has the ability to roll out the various country sites efficiently, and to have them meet local specifications while at the same time optimising performance.
“Without Xebia's assistance our organisational transformation could not have been so successful. Our IT department's professionalism has substantially increased, and it is now structurally operating at a higher level. This allows us to continue to distinguish ourselves from other providers through the quality of our offerings.”
Klaas Waslander, CTO Albumprinter
Albumprinter entrusts SCRUM roll-out to specialist Xebia
Innovative product development is one of the hallmarks of Albumprinter. The unprecedented speed of innovation powered the enormous growth of the organization, certainly also of the IT department. A mature structure to under-pin process-driven product development was required. Albumprinter found such an approach: the Agile method Scrum.
For Albumprinter, its innovation and entrepreneurship, the set up and roll-out of Scrum teams is vital. Albumprinter accepted this challenge in a determined manner with a reliable partner. Xebia supported the introduction of Scrum at Albumprinter by coaching the management team, setting up a product management team, assisting staff 'on the floor' and making a gradual scale-up possible. Albumprinter and Xebia subsequently entered into a long-term partnership to integrate Xebia's Agile Offshore capacity into Albumprinter.
The direct consequence of working in Scrum teams is a greater involvement of Albumprinter's employees in projects, for which they then also carry responsibility. This makes progress and processes at Albumprinter fully transparent. Scrum has lifted the product teams to a new level, allowing Albumprinter to continue to differentiate itself from other suppliers through quality. Xebia played an essential role in the successful conclusion of this complete organisational transformation.
