Xebia helps Human Inference to further renew and improve its application suite. Human Inference, European market leader in data quality solutions, wanted to apply new technological possibilities faster and support customers with an even more complete set of data quality solutions. With the new application suite, developed in Java by Xebia, Human Inference is able to do so.
Human Inference invited several providers to present a case, within a week, on how they would tackle the project. Instead of putting the possible approach on paper, Xebia presented working software. That convinced Human Inference to let Xebia produce a proof of concept.
What distinguishes Xebia from other providers, is the speed with which software is developed. One of the reasons is that Xebia works with an 'Agile Distributed Development Method'. Using the Agile methodology results in short development cycles with high productivity. In addition, it guarantees the quality of the developed software as a piece of working software is deliverd after each cycle. Furthermore, the Agile Distributed Development Method enables IT professionals to work from seperate locations but operate as one team, thus working more efficient and cost effective.

On February 11, Computable announced the bol.com and Xebia are nominated for the 2010 Computable Best Business Award.
Xebia's business case is the total and fast implementation of Agile at bol.com. Thanks to Agile, bol.com has accelerated the time-to-market of new applications and has realized parallel development. On top of that, the Agile way of working resulted in a better motivated IT staff. Agile offers bol.com the possibility to keep growing at the same pace.
On January 22, Xebia welcomed the 1000th Scrum student. During the ScrumMaster training, Ron Eringa of Philips Healthcare received a cheque for an Agile Management Workshop and a rugby ball signed by Scrum guru Jeff Sutherland to celebrate this event.

This training is very successfull, as it offers a good combination of theory and practice combined with a a high level of quality. Xebia also gives Product Owner and Team Member training sessions, thus offering a complete portfolio of Scrum training. Xebia identifies a growing interest in its training portfolio.
We at Xebia believe that corporate social responsibility is very important. That is why our Christmas card offered the possibility to donate € 10,- to charity.
From 14 December 2009 till 11 January 2010, relations and employees of Xebia Netherlands were offered the possibility to donate to one of six charities that all have one thing in common: the welfare of children worldwide.
Weeks in advance, a team of people was busy designing the card, making a selection of charities and creating the website. And with great success! We have received many donations, and also many great responses:
Xebia foresees a considerable increase in the use of Scala in 2010. Large technology corporations like LinkedIn and Twitter, but also a more traditional company like Siemens, are increasingly using Scala on a Java platform. They have adopted Scala technology and apply it broadly. The Scala language is 100% compatible with Java and underlying middle ware. Reutilization of existing Java software and middle ware, without the need to adapt anything, is guaranteed. Therefore only a minimal investment is required.
Urs Peter, senior consultant at Xebia says: "More and more companies are looking for a simple and concise solutions. Scala not only offers them an improvement of productivity. The use of Scala is also cost effective as companies can still use their existing middle ware and infrastructure. As Scala is entirely compatible with Java, existing Java components, solutions and knowledge can be re utilized. For the implementation of Scala, an investment in knowledge of the language is the only thing needed. And this investment is relatively small, as developers do not need to command all new possibilities of the language, like functional programming. They can apply the knowledge successively, without any loss of quality. Scala enables developers to stay very close to the business logic and thus omit various meta blocks. This results in neatness and a structure that is easy to maintain. Scala is a powerful and effective language and the low threshold for switching to it makes it very attractive for companies to develop software in a more effective and efficient way."
The Agile Consortium has elected Jeroen Venneman as a member of its board. The Agile Consortium offers organisations that want to implement Agile a platform to share knowledge, insights and skills. Jeroen Venneman, principle consultant at Xebia, has been involved with the Consortium for over 10 years. As a member of the board, Jeroen will do his utmost to contribute to a broader application of Agile business.
