Object-oriented meets functional: An exploration of Scala
We are excited to announce a two day Scala training with Martin Odersky on October 14 and 15. Mark those dates in your calendar! This will be a unique opportunity to learn the language from the creator himself.
Say what?
Scala is a new hybrid functional / object-oriented language running on the Java VM. Think of it as the programming language offering everything you always wanted to have but were afraid to ask. Where many new language features seem to require cold fusion to shoehorn them into Java, Scala has been able to embrace all of it in a beautiful way, without breaking its conceptual integrity. As a result, Scala is both easier to read and easier to write, and - because of its statically typed nature and its concurrency features - an excellent fit for large scale enterprise development.
Olav Maassen, Agile consultant at Xebia, is co-presenting at the first Lean & Kanban conference 2010. The next wave for software and system process conference in Belgium. Lean Architecture As a project developer, you’re responsible as much for software construction as for its architecture. It’s certainly the case in Agile projects. This goes much fuarther than developing and implementing solutions. It calls for craftsmanship, organization and a clear view of things.
The Lean Architecture approach aims to remain faithful to the essence of software development. It ties in with the Agile methodology and it results in better software. It creates a link between the interests of the projects and developers on the one hand and long-term aims and maintainability on the other.
Agile projects call for greater responsibility on the part of developers and project architects, and that requires a variety of skills and capabilities. Lean Architecture gives substance to this progression by keeping an eye on technology and process.
