On June 17, Xebia hosts a seminar with the challenging title: Enterprise Architecture cannot handle changes....
CHALLENGE
The challenge of architects is guaranteeing cohesion, connectivity, and changeability (of IT) while dealing with the forces of business and projects. This is usually done by creating up-front architecture descriptions and a reference architecture not based on concrete project requirements. These up-front activities often ignore the ever more rapidly changing business environment. Which leads to a wide gap between architects and projects and to a likely failure of securing the architecture. The consequences for the business are a long time-to-market and high costs.
SOLUTION
Lean Architecture is a multidisciplinary short-cyclic approach that acknowledges the changing world. Instead of considering those changes as impediments, it regards them as opportunities for improvement and learning. Focus is on adding value, for which close cooperation with projects is necessary. Concrete project requirements contribute to determining priority on the architecture agenda. What does this imply? A changed role for the architect: he/she must be involved during the entire life cycle and must constantly play an active role in keeping stakeholders and projects aligned.
RESULT
Architecture is performed more effectively and this helps projects (and thus the company) to function more effectively and efficiently. During the seminar we will elaborate on the practical employment of Lean Architecture, the impact on the architect’s role, and the relations with projects and (Agile) systems development, using real-life cases. Also, time has been reserved for discussion, where you can provide your own specific cases as input.
